In February 2026, the GTI-Producers registered 46.8% and stayed below the critical value (50%) for several consecutive months, indicating a continued downturn for the timber harvesting and primary processing industries in the pilot producing countries.

In Asia, the GTI indexes for Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia came in at 54.5%, 45.5%, and 27.2%, respectively. On the supply side, Thailand saw harvesting volume decline for the fifth consecutive month while production level rose for the second straight month, and its sample enterprises reported a shortage of timber in the domestic market. In Indonesia, extreme rainfall led to a dip in both harvesting and production, interrupting a prior upward trend. Malaysia, meanwhile, continued to experience declines across both harvesting and production activity. In terms of demand, Thailand recorded a further rise in new orders this month, buoyed by domestic demand. Indonesia saw overall orders hold steady, with a modest uptick in export orders. Malaysia’s market, by contrast, remained relatively sluggish.

In Africa, the GTIs for the Republic of the Congo (ROC), Ghana, and Gabon stood at 49.5%, 43.6%, and 36.8%, respectively. On the supply front, the Republic of the Congo posted a month-on-month increase in harvesting, while production dipped slightly. Ghana recorded declines in both harvesting and production for the second consecutive month. In Gabon, persistent heavy rainfall across several upcountry regions weighed on harvesting activity, though production volume remained flat compared to the previous month. On the demand side, the volume of orders held relatively steady in the Republic of the Congo, while both domestic and international orders declined for Ghana and Gabon.

In Latin America, the GTIs for Brazil, Ecuador, and Mexico stood at 49.2%, 44.8%, and 41.3%, respectively. On the supply side, Brazil’s harvesting volume was unchanged from the previous month, while production declined for the second consecutive month. Ecuador saw harvesting stabilize after a prior decline, though production continued to trend downward. In Mexico, harvesting volume rose for the first time in nine months, supported by the gradual issuance of annual logging permits, while production was relatively stable. In terms of demand, both Brazil and Ecuador posted month-on-month gains in new orders, with particularly strong performance in export markets. Mexico, however, experienced a decline in new orders, although its export market was broadly stable.
